CHC: Carolina Health
Position: CEO

Sue Veer, MBA, has served as the President and CEO of Carolina Health Centers, Inc. (CHC) since 2006. CHC is a federally qualified community health center with 12 primary care medical sites that serve as the medical home for more than 27,000 patients throughout the seven-county area of South Carolina known as the Lakelands. CHC opened its first onsite pharmacy in 2005 and made a strategic decision to operate as both a health center 340B pharmacy and a retail community pharmacy open to the public. CHC’s pharmacy program has grown to include two stand-alone community pharmacies, daily delivery of prescriptions to patients at all of CHC’s rural satellite medical sites, and a mail-order service. Filling more than 30,000 prescriptions per month, CHC is now offering medication therapy management and working to integrate clinical pharmacy into the primary care teams at the medical sites.

In addition to her leadership at CHC, Ms. Veer is a member of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Primary Health Care Association and serves as the chair of that organization’s 340B Work Group. Ms. Veer also sits on the Vision Council for the Healthy Outcomes Plan administered by the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and is the current chair of the managing partners of Community Integrated Management Services, a health center-owned independent practice association. On the national level, Ms. Veer is an active member of the National Association for Community Health Centers (NACHC), serving on the Legislative, Health Policy, and Rural Health committees, and serving in a leadership role on the NACHC 340B Work Group.

Before joining Carolina Health Centers, Ms. Veer served as associate executive director of the South Carolina Primary Health Care Association, where she gained extensive knowledge in health policy and health center management. Her professional background includes management positions in the private practice and community hospital environment, as well as at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Ms. Veer holds a BA degree in business and communication from Carlow College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and earned her MBA from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
