Our Mission is to deliver timely, comprehensive and quality health services with dignity and respect regardless of a person’s ability to pay; foster partnerships with community providers to enhance the health of the region; and advocate for policies which promote and protect the physical, mental and social well-being of the communities we serve.

Fetter Health Care Network, formerly known as the Franklin C. Fetter Family Health Center, was established under the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) as a demonstration project initially funded by the Federal Office of Economic Opportunity. It was established to provide a full range of health care services to Charleston’s low-income community.

Over time, this project became a Community Health Center under Public Law 9564, Section 330, of the Federal Regulation. Fetter is the oldest federally-qualified health center in South Carolina. In 1975, Fetter was registered as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in the state of South Carolina.

Initial funding was secured by a group of concerned citizens including Dr. Franklin C. Fetter (former Dean of MUSC), Father Henry Grant (community organizer), former S.C. Senator Herbert U. Fielding, former U.S. Senator Ernest F. Hollings, and Mr. J. Arthur Brown (community leader).

In 2017, Fetter Health Care Network celebrated 50 years of providing affordable, quality primary health care and dental services.
